About the Area

Sheffield is the fifth largest city in the UK, with a population of 552,698 people; the Trust provides services to the adult population in the city which consist of over 452,000 people.

Sheffield offers the benefits of city living alongside beautiful countryside.  The Peak District National Park is just a few miles away and offers amazing scenery and a wide range of outdoor activities including walking, cycling, rafting and ziplines.

As the fourth largest city in England Sheffield has a wide variety of facilities including art galleries, theatres, cinemas, clubs, restaurants, bars and shopping outlets.  There is truly something to suit everyone.

Dubbed the greenest city in England, Sheffield boasts a large number of parks and hosts lots of family friendly events.  There are also a number of festivals each year including the Tramlines Music Festival, the Off the Shelf literary festival and Doc/Fest.

Sheffield has a range of world class sports venues including football, athletics and swimming as well as an ice rink.  There are many golf courses, gyms and other facilities catering for a variety of sporting interests.

Each year the city welcomes over 40,000 students at its two universities and several further education establishments.  There are well regarded schools and colleges across the city.

And if that wasn’t enough, Sheffield has excellent transport links to the rest of the country with the M1 close by.  Manchester can be reached by train in less than an hour while direct trains to London take just over two hours.
